Espirito Brum is the UK edition of Espirito Mundo, a cross cultural celebration bringing together musicians from Brazil and Birmingham, in a three day festival that forms the first stage in a ongoing global exchange.

During Espirito Brum, which will run from September 14th- 18th 2011, creative collaborations in Birmingham between visiting and local artists will be in the form of concerts, workshops, recordings and interventions. The roster of Brazilian artists who will take part in Espirito Brum represent a wide cross section of contemporary and traditional disciplines from across Brazil, ranging from Afrobrazilian hip hop and reggae to classical guitar, samba rock, contemporary folk music from Maranhão and experimental percussion from Paraíba. You can find out more on our Artists page. Visual artists specialising in graffiti and illustration will also feature, sharing their distinctive interpretations of Brazilian culture.
Espirito Brum is not just a celebration of Brazilian culture, however. It is a meeting point, where the cream of Birmingham’s creative talent can explore and create alongside artists from a far removed cultural context.
The Brummie contingent includes some of the city’s most vibrant artists, like Paul Murphy (The Destroyers), Aries (Lionfire Crew), Little Sister, Newso and Lisk, along with artists from further afield in the UK, such as Bristol dubsteppers Innamorati and Peterborough based graffiti artist Curs.
